What is Active Hope?

Active Hope supports us to find — and step into — our most meaningful response to the challenges of our time.

Rather than waiting for change to come, it invites us to become active participants in shaping the future we long to see — a future where life on Earth can truly thrive.

This interactive, group-based process is rooted in The Work that Reconnects
and was developed by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone for these times — to help us face the reality of our world situation with courage, resilience, and creative power.

Active Hope gives us space to:

acknowledge and explore how we feel about what is happening in the world

• reconnect with what we care most deeply about

• imagine the kind of world we want to help bring into being

• discover our role within that larger picture, and take meaningful first steps

At a time when so much is being asked of us, Active Hope reminds us that we are not alone — and that each of us has a part to play.

Together, we can begin to move towards a way of living that supports the flourishing of all life.

Tamzin Hale Hurley and I co-facilitate workshops in person and online. We can offer introductory experiences as well as more in-depth six-part courses. We can also offer workshops at events, retreats and festivals.

Workshops and courses can include:

an exploration of Active Hope concepts and stories

spoken, written, creative, meditative and embodied practices

a mix of group, pair and individual work

the chance to share, connect, explore ideas and feedback – all in a supportive, connected and safe space

We trained with Chris Johnstone, co-author of the Active Hope book, to facilitate this work. Please get in touch for more information.
